Northmores supported Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to deliver a technically demanding and strategically critical upgrade within its inpatient pharmacy, replacing a legacy robotic system with a state-of-the-art automation solution.
Northmores supported Addenbrooke’s Hospital in delivering a complex upgrade within its live inpatient pharmacy environment. The project involved replacing the existing pharmacy robot with a new automated system, requiring significant adaptation of the existing building infrastructure and services.
The primary challenge was delivering the works within a fully operational healthcare setting, ensuring continuity of pharmacy services throughout. The project required careful coordination between multiple operational teams, including Trust staff, specialist contractors and system providers, all working in close proximity.
Particular attention was given to maintaining a safe and secure working environment, especially in relation to controlled drug storage areas. Detailed planning and sequencing enabled the works to be undertaken without compromising operational integrity.
The project demonstrates Northmores’ ability to manage complex, high-risk upgrades within live healthcare environments through collaborative working, technical understanding and rigorous coordination.
