Northmores were commissioned as Project Managers and Lead Consultant to deliver a major programme of upgrades and refurbishment to the Paediatric Day Unit, High Dependency Unit, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Ward C3 at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The thirteen-bed PICU ward cares for sick children who need very close observation from doctors, nurses and other members of the healthcare team.
The project involved an upgrade to key mechanical and electric services including a new aspirating fire detection system, CFSDs to ductwork, new light fittings, under wiring and controls, installation of uninterruptible power supplies (to ensure a continuous supply of electricity in the event of a power cut or other electrical fault), medical gases and a new domestic water system throughout.
The team has also installed new fire doors, fire stopping / protection, ceilings, decoration, reception desk and specialist new medical equipment such as ceiling mounted specialist pendants and bed head services systems.
Working in and adjacent to a live healthcare environment with very unwell patients, we were sensitive to the need for privacy and dignity, and this was reflected in the planning and professionalism of our work.
Both phases of the project were formally accelerated through the Contract and increased scopes of work delivered ahead of schedule to assist the hospital to prepare for the pressures of winter.
